My name is Keith Flores, and I am a disabled Veteran. I served in Iraq from 2003 to 2004 and came home, as many of my fellow veterans have, to discover I was suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Despite that diagnosis, I immediately returned to my job as a Software Engineer in Corporate America. I then struggled with PTSD for ten years, putting my family and myself through hell, before I finally crashed and very nearly killed myself in the process.
Luckily, I survived.
I spent several years in recovery and studied PTSD so that I could better understand what it was that was robbing me of happiness and causing me to hurt the ones I loved the most. I learned that PTSD is an incurable disorder, but it is manageable. I learned that it is not a flaw in my character or a symptom of being weak. I learned that I am, indeed, Human. In short, I learned that it can be beaten with hard, focused work and therapy.
This shop is part of my therapy.
Double Daggers Artisan Emporium represents a turning point in my life where I have returned to the things that I once had a great love for but in the intervening years had lost sight of. It is a place for my old friends to gather and enjoy themselves playing games or talking shop about comics. It is a place for me to meet new friends who share the same passions that I do. It is a place for me to continue healing and hopefully bring my experience to help other veterans who come in.
DDAE is not just a shop, it is a safe place for “our people” to come to whenever they feel the need. I encourage all Veterans, nerds, geeks, misfits, comic junkies, rennies, game enthusiasts, and everyone in between to come visit and see what we have to offer beyond mere products. Come hang out with “your people” and bring your friends.
